An important announcement from our Board Chair – Andrew Taylor
Dear Valued Customers, Supporters and Friends,
I hope this message finds you well. It’s never easy to share news like this, and it’s with a heavy heart that I let you know about an important development at The Kings Theatre. After much reflection and with great sadness, we have made the incredibly difficult decision to temporarily close the theatre from 24th February until 1st September to carry out some essential and unexpected safety improvements.
We understand that The Kings Theatre is so much more than a building—it’s a place where stories come alive, where laughter, tears, and joy are shared, and where unforgettable memories are made. It’s a place where friendships are formed, dreams are realised, and magic happens.
We know that many of you have cherished memories here, and we are deeply sorry that this closure will mean missing out on moments you were looking forward to.We feel this loss with you. Cancelling performances, even temporarily, means lost opportunities to share the art, talent, and joy that define our theatre. But above all, your safety and well-being matter most. These essential improvements will ensure that
The Kings Theatre remains a safe and welcoming place for everyone—for now and for the future.
We are working closely with our performers and hirers to reschedule as many shows as possible, and we promise to keep you updated with new dates and upcoming performances as soon as they are confirmed. We cannot wait for the day when the curtains rise again, and the stage lights shine on stories that captivate and inspire. This closure is not the end but a new chapter. The heart of The Kings Theatre has always been you—our audience, our community, our family.
Together, we will return, stronger and ready to create even more beautiful memories. We believe that the best stories are worth waiting for, and we promise that the next chapter will be brighter than ever.Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for your understanding, your patience, and your unwavering support. The theatre isn’t the same without you, and we can’t wait to welcome you back home.
With deepest gratitude and warmest regards,
Andrew Taylor
(Board Chair) Trustee at The Kings Theatre
The Kings Theatre is run by and for the people of Gloucester as a venue for amateur theatre, dance and music.
Run entirely by volunteers, it is a unique and valuable asset to the city’s cultural life.
Seating 144, it is home to several local groups, staging a full season of entertainment from September to June.
Tucked just off Eastgate Street, close to the heart of Gloucester City Centre is this little gem of a theatre.
The theatre is flexible with accessibility requirements, and is happy to
help arrange and organise your visit as smoothly as possible.
Looking forward, we have many more shows lined up for this year and beyond. Most of these shows have
tickets available on TicketSource, and all upcoming shows can be found on our What’s On Calendar here
